I do have some interesting information regarding the person upon whom Ben Gazzara's character was based. Sally Tunnicliffe I know from my days as President of the Singapore Stage Club.

Interesting blog, movie and book. I visited Singapore several times with the US Navy in the 80s. Remmember seeing the novel back in the day. Might even have a copy around here buried in the stacks of books. Too bad your book is oop and extremely expensive.
